UC Statement and Initiatives

University College Statement

The University College reaffirms its commitment to fostering an environment where all individuals are valued and respected. We strive to promote fairness and justice within the Charlotte community and beyond. The University College staff is united in the pursuit of empowering our students to achieve these collective goals.

We acknowledge that individuals are at various points along their journey of understanding and growth. We also understand that partiality can be unconscious or unintentional. These conversations require courage, respect, and compassion and may not always be comfortable. As a community committed to fairness and justice, we will purposefully strive to identify, discuss, and challenge issues and their impacts on students, faculty, and staff members.

We stand committed:

  • To affirm, explicitly and in united solidarity, our identity as an academic unit dedicated to fairness and justice.
  • To individual and institutional exploration and examination so that our commitment to fairness, justice, and student success is reflected in the life and culture of the University College through our policies, programs, and practices as we continue to learn and grow.
  • To develop and implement strategies and best practices that promote fairness and justice within all aspects of our academic unit, college, university, community, and society.
