Gary Martinez

Gary became a member of University College in March 2022. He graduated from Rutgers University with his Bachelor’s in Sociology and his Master’s in Liberal Studies concentrating in Public Administration, Education, and Peace and Conflict Studies.  He started his advising journey at Rutgers- Newark in 2010 working with TRiO Student Support Services. In 2017, he began working as an academic advisor with the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences here at UNC-Charlotte.

Gary is passionate about grooming students as they prepare to navigate the professional world and he is dedicated to the mission of student growth and success. His counseling philosophy is geared towards student empowerment as he strives to teach students to become proactive self-sufficient individuals who explore new opportunities and use available campus resources. Mr. Martinez welcomes students from all walks of life and is an advocate for inclusivity as he encourages students to tell their story.

Outside of work, Gary enjoys spending time with his family interacting with nature, fishing, swimming, partaking in recreational sports, and exploring new experiences.
